What is Sickle Cell Disease..

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited blood disorder that affects how red blood cells work in the body. In someone with SCD, the red blood cells become hard, sticky, and shaped like a sickle (a curved farming tool), which makes it harder for blood and oxygen to flow through the body. This can cause pain, fatigue, frequent infections, and other serious health issues. While there is no universal cure, many individuals with SCD live long, fulfilling lives with early care, emotional support, and strong family advocacy.

What Sickle Cell Awareness looks like to me…

Sickle cell disease impacts more than 100 thousand worldwide, requiring immense strength and resilience from those who live with it. This is why Red Stick Sickle Cell Group was created. Being a sickle cell warrior, advocate, and community health worker, having lived experience, to build a platform where it would be dedicated to raising awareness, providing support, and empowering warriors and their families is the vision.

Through my own journey as a sickle cell warrior, this is that creative space for connection, resources, and education. Here, you can join me as I help amplify the voices of those affected by sickle cell disease, build community relationships, and we can work together toward a brighter future within the sickle cell community.
