Closing 2024: A Warrior’s Farewell and A Hopeful Hello

As 2024 draws to a close, I find myself in a quiet moment of reflection, thinking about the year we’ve lived, the challenges we’ve faced, and the victories—both big and small—that we’ve celebrated. For many of us, the holiday season is a whirlwind of emotion, joy, and activity, often leaving us physically and emotionally spent. So, as we step into the final Monday of the year, let’s take a collective breath and remember the importance of rest and recovery—especially for us, the warriors who often push ourselves harder than anyone realizes.

Rest as a Foundation for Resilience

The holiday season is a time of connection, but it can also be overwhelming. From family gatherings to festive obligations, it’s easy to forget the toll it can take on our health. As warriors, our bodies demand more care, especially after periods of heightened activity. Rest isn’t just a luxury—it’s a cornerstone of resilience. Taking time to recharge ensures we step into the new year with strength, clarity, and purpose.

So, before the ball drops and the calendar flips, I urge you to prioritize moments of stillness. Whether it’s an extra hour of sleep, quiet time with a good book, or simply saying no to something that feels like too much, give yourself permission to rest.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to share a new chapter in my journey. Throughout 2025, my blog will feature a series titled "Letters of Reflection: A Warrior’s Journey Through 2025." These weekly letters will be deeply personal, offering glimpses into my past, present, and future as a sickle cell warrior, mother, advocate, and wife.

I’ll be writing to my past self—acknowledging the struggles and triumphs that shaped who I am today—and to my future self, envisioning the strength and purpose I hope to embody. Through these letters, I hope to inspire you to reflect on your own journey, honor your growth, and dream boldly for the road ahead.

Walking Into 2025 Together

As we prepare for the new year, let’s do so with intention. Let’s carry the lessons of 2024 forward while leaving behind what no longer serves us. Most importantly, let’s remember that every step—whether small or monumental—is a testament to our strength as warriors.
